On the 21st of March 2022, World Down Syndrome Day, the team at the Down Syndrome Centre North East was greeted by a bright display of art work here at the centre in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan.
The art work was completed by students at Carrickmacross YouthReach and their very talented teachers Orla and Bernie who worked with artist Tim from Re-Ink-Our-Nation Urban Arts to help complete this amazing urban art! The paintings are bright and colourful, showcasing counties Monaghan, Louth, Cavan and Meath to represent the North East Region. What was once a plain container has been totally transformed.
When coming up with the concept for the artwork, Tim had an amazing thought process behind it all saying, '' My thinking behind the bright colours is pure joy. On the right and left there are stripes which represent the full spectrum of young people that you work with.''
''The reaching hands in the bottom right work 2 ways. They are the hands of help which DSCNE give to your young people but they have a heart in them which is the love given back to you. The centre of the design is dominated by the map of the 4 counties from where you draw your families.''
Thank you to to the students involved, Orla, Bernie and Tim for your creativity and hard work. #dreamteam
