Reflecting on 2020

Updated: Jan 27, 2021

Looking back at 2020, here is a summary of a year that no one could have planned for. In this past year we have provided:

* Face-to-face and virtual access to early intervention groups, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy & music therapy (free of charge from March to December)

* An activities schedule including adaptive dance, moo music, mess chef, handwriting without tears (HWT was run free of charge from March to December)

* Therapy and Tuition Scheme supporting families with financial assistance when we were unable to provide access to certain therapies and services during the Centre’s closure from March to December

*Training & information seminars and information packs for parents, family members & professionals working with children with Down Syndrome

*Counselling service

*Our first home-based “Lots of Socks” awareness campaign and World Down Syndrome Day celebration

*Calendar photoshoot with 27 of our service users; selling over 2500 calendars all over Ireland, as well as some international sales as well

* Virtual call with Father Christmas in the North Pole, with a special gift “The Abilities in Me: Down Syndrome” book sent to the younger children.

We would like to acknowledge the continued support we have still received from businesses, clubs & individuals from all over the North East region & beyond. 2020 was exceptionally difficult in terms of our fundraising events, and 2021 does not look too promising in terms of large scale events. We are so grateful for those that still chose to support and raise funds for us.

Thank you from Team DSCNE
