Happy World Down Syndrome Day!!!
We hope all your families have embraced the colourful funky, mismatched socks day that today has become recognised with. Please do send on any photos to marketing@dscnortheast.ie
We have lots of exciting news to update you on, so what better day to share our Spring 2022 newsletter with you all and schedule attached!
Lots of Socks
Over 80 preschools, schools and businesses have signed up to join in with “Lots of Socks” with DSCNE today from all across the North East region, and even some surrounding areas too. This is the internationally recognised day to spread awareness and celebrate individuals with Down Syndrome so we are delighted a record number of places have signed up! Some are also using this for much needed fundraising for our centre, which we are always very grateful for. We will update you with the total number of participants and share some photos in due course.
Online Library
Our website has a member only area, which gives access to our online lending library. DSCNE service users will shortly receive an email with the link to become a “member” and then you can view the library. Items include See and Learn Packs, textbooks, children’s books, OT equipment, and we will be adding more items to this in the future. Up to three items can be loaned out at one time, for 28 days, free of charge. Collection/pick up only from DSCNE during our opening hours. Email info@dscnortheast.ie if you require any support with creating an account and renting items.
Family Fun Day (Easter holidays)
All DSCNE service users have been invited to a Family Fun Day that we are planning over the Easter holidays and very much looking forward to. Tickets and further details will be communicated separately now that we can really start planning. We can’t wait to see it all come together.
However, we will need some volunteers to assist with the day, and potentially other holidays camps, events. If you are interested, or know someone who might be able to help to assist with events or as a Support Assistant working with small groups of children – please ask them to contact DSCNE via 042 942 3181 or email info@dscnortheast.ie
321Go Neon
This took place over the weekend of 12th March (321 in reverse!) and we were delighted that over 480 participants registered to officially take part by wearing bright neon clothing, and, as restrictions were lifted in time, even more pleased that a number of local GAA and community groups, and preschools and schools opened up their facilities to allow for individuals to gather together and walk, and enjoy a cup of tea and even cake afterwards. We are still receiving donations and sponsorship so we will also update you and share photos in the next few weeks.
Artwork in partnership with Youthreach Carrickmacross
For those of you that take a walk on the Avenue located directly behind the CTEK building, you may, or may not have noticed our large blue storage container. Well, you certainly won’t miss it now!
Together with Carrickmacross Youthreach and Tim from Re-Ink-Our-Nation Urban Arts, we created some amazing urban art and a real talking point, to let everyone know we are in the locality. Several students worked tirelessly over three days in all the seasons of weather to add some real colour to the area. This was a fantastic project to be a part of and we are thrilled with the final pieces. We are so thankful for the opportunity to be part of this project.
Be sure to look when you are next in the area and below are some pictures also!
